STAINED GLASS ENCAPSULATION
STAINED GLASS ENCAPSULATION (TRIPLE GLAZING)
Stained glass encapsulation is the process of inserting traditional leaded-lights or stained glass panels inside double glazed units. Effectively creating triple glazing, it allows a client to retain their existing leaded-lights or stained glass (often a key period feature of older properties) whilst not compromising on efficiency. New bespoke commissions can also be supplied encapsulated for installation into either timber or UPVC frames where additional sound and heat insulation is required.
With hundreds of projects now completed nationally, Lightworks have extensive experience in the supply and installation of encapsulated leaded and stained glass. Many of these are smaller projects for period domestic residences but the company also has the skill, knowledge and capacity to undertake much larger and more challenging contracts. One example of this is the west window of Clitheroe United Reform Church. This project involved supplying and installing 67 new encapsulated lead-lights (many of which required complex shaped CNC cut units) and the manufacture and installation of 22 bespoke powder coated metal-casement frames.
