STAINED GLASS RESTORATION, REPAIR AND CONSERVATION

Stained and leaded glass is an incredibly durable medium that can last for decades if not centuries. However, it can be susceptible to damage (intentional or accidental) or structural deterioration due to the passage of time and environmental factors. Where this is the case, Lightworks are able to draw on almost 30 years of knowledge, experience and skill in the fields of stained glass restoration, repair and conservation.

In line with best conservation practice, the firm operates under the guiding principle of “minimum intervention” (in layman’s terms this can be translated as “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”), taking care to thoroughly assess condition and advise clients of the most appropriate, sympathetic procedures required for their projects specific needs. Those might range from the relatively straight forward; carrying out single or multiple insitu repairs that can be undertaken without removing glass from its setting, to the more challenging; part or full removal of glazing to allow for studio based restoration & conservation.
