St. Paul's Community Centre, Penarth, South Wales
In 2023, Lightworks completed one of our largest and most ambitious contracts to date. It involved the design, production and installation of three new large stained glass windows for the historic facade of St. Paul’s Community Centre (formerly St. Paul’s Church), in Penarth.
The finished scheme of stained glass is the fruit of many months of design consultation between Lightworks and Community Liaison Artist, Sarah Sweeney. A key focus of the project was to ensure the involvement and input of the local community. This took the form of several design-lead consultations including the input of local school children who were asked to submit drawings about Penarth, its history, people and location. These idea’s were collated by Sarah who weaved them into a sketch concept and this concept was adapted and brought to life by Lightworks.
This video gives further insight into the project and the importance of St. Paul’s and its significance to the local community both historically and socially.
A formal unveiling of the commission was held in late 2023, attended over 100 people including Lightworks, Sarah Sweeney, and key members of Newydd Housing Association. Also in attendence were Cllr Lis Burnett who played a huge part in seeing the project brought to fruition and Vaughan Gething the current Welsh Labour Leader.
